An all-neutral room only works when the textures disagree with each other. Start with one nubby wool, one smooth linen and one hard surface such as stone or oak, then repeat that trio at three different scales: cushion, rug, table.
Keep every colour within two steps of the others in value. Contrast comes from weave and sheen, not from hue — that is what makes a beige room feel expensive instead of unfinished.
